As you’d expect from the title and cover (it’s always nice when these things align), this is a darkly humorous story of a sociopath and a body or two that get in her way.
Lalla Rook is an ambitious sociopath, with a husband she needs to make partner, a rebellious young daughter she is trying to get into an exclusive school, and a dead body in her living room. But she also has her wits and plenty of plans to get out of trouble and acquire what she wants. Whatever it takes.
She’d be a great project manager.
Look, these books aren’t always for me. I like mostly good characters to root for. Lalla doesn’t have a lot of empathy and she can be cruel. But she’s also very funny and often helps her friends out (even if its to her benefit). Yes, she’d see you go to jail for her mistakes, but she’d also make sure no man took advantage of you.
Deft writing and short chapters kept me chuckling until the end. A quick, fun read.
