The One Day You Were My Husband is a slow-burn psychological thriller/suspense. It opens with Rosie’s husband Johan being torn away from her just hours after they marry, then quickly reverts to present day, where Rosie has moved on with her life. She is now a mum to premature twins and married to someone stable. She can forget all about that terrible time.

Until she finds a picture of Johan online. He’s alive! But what happened to him the night he was taken from her?

The book spends some time getting you settled in Rosie’s world now – trying to get back into her career, dealing with elderly parents, supporting her husband and so on – before everything turns upside down. This slows down the pace a little but perhaps is needed for all the revelations later.

It’s also clear that Rosie does have some information (admittedly not a lot) that is purposely held back from the reader until it suits the author, which can be a little frustrating.

Once she catches up to Johan and we begin to find out more about that night on the beach, I was pulled into the story again and really enjoyed piecing together who did what, and why. Even if I did guess a bit of it!
